Glossary
The words you need for Villain Con, as the Council uses them. If a word is not here, you were not invited to know it.

- Villain Con
- The yearly convention for people in the villain line of business. If you weren’t invited, you’re not invited. On the record every year since 2021; 2021 was held digitally. See Villain Con through the years.
- The Council
- Villain Con’s governing body. Issues notices, embargoes and public statements, approves funding, and in 2026 commandeered the Mystic Theatre. See the Council.
- Hammerhead
- Half human, half hammerhead shark, and not the good half. A friendly rival; “nemesis” is his word. See his casting file.
- The Resistance of Justice Society (RJS)
- The other side. Held the rights to clouds and let the contract expire (2022). Answered the power of the horse with time travel (2023), and took on artificial intelligence (2024).
- The power of the horse
- The RJS motto, a horse-stance squat. Villain Con took it on in 2023. “The roosters are about to come home to slay.”
- Disguise name
- What the Villain Con attendance form asks for instead of your name. Personalised and embargoed. The host’s is not to be said.
- The opening ceremony: a giant revolving tank of sharks that encircles everyone. Guests only. Missed in 2021, back in 2022, and in 2026 the host finally gets to be in it.
- The patent department
- Where Hammerhead hangs around. Must be a fish thing.
- K Cider
- The branded drinks deal at Villain Con. The host’s, three years running by 2022. Contested.
- The embargo
- What stops things being shown. In 2021 the official licensed hoodie arrived under embargo and had to be taken off to film.
- The Silver Screen Seance
- The theme of Villain Con 26. A seance calls back the dead, and so does a remake; the Council took the old-fashioned big screen. See the Silver Screen Seance.
- Mystic Movies
- The name over the stage of the Mystic Theatre. “I am taking movies away, and that’s where Mystic Movies comes in.”
- The Mystic Theatre
- A paper toy theatre played by a stage engine, commandeered for the week. See how it works.
- Simulmake
- Two films made as a pair and released together, each complete on its own. In 2026: Santa Origins and The Real Thing. See the simulmake.
- A 119
- A film of 119 minutes, not 120. The minute you get back is a gift from Villain Con. See 119minutes.com.
- NLP
- “It’s not against you. It’s through you, into your mind.” Day 1 says it is fine. Day 5 says the music has been doing it all week.
- Stay asleep
- The instruction of Villain Con 26. Every other year it was the opposite.
- Easy breezy
- How every week at Villain Con is described before it starts. Checked afterwards: “a couple of broken arms”.
- Corridor speak
- Things overheard from the Council in a corridor. Not a ruling. Take with a grain of sodium chloride. Salt is available at the back.
- The regular way
- What the Council allows when the gift is forbidden: no eyes on the public, no humming. The rules said nothing about screens.
- LEAVESNUTS
- The drink in The Real Thing, named, with total sincerity, after the very ingredients themselves. Its clean version, New Nuts, is wanted by nobody.
- The airborne virus policy
- Masks must be worn in public. This is not the public. If you’re watching this, you’re not the public either.
- Take seventeen
- The last recording of Day 4. The Council does not accept an eighteenth. That’s how a loop ends.
- The lamp
- The owner of the Mystic Theatre’s compensation for the week. Please blow it out when you’re done.
- This is now an end screen
- How every Villain Con video has ended since 2021. What it means is the video is finished.
